We believe we can empower people to considerably increase the lifespan of devices by changing their purpose from single-use to multi-use; an electronic device consists of a lot of different components that all work in conjunction to provide its functionality. Each of these components can be salvaged or repurposed into something else before the device ends up in a waste stream.

Unbinare is an e-waste reverse engineering lab. Our objective is to reduce e-waste by finding means to repurpose discarded electronic devices that are either operational or beyond repair. We believe that when devices are discarded, they should not be prematurely identified as waste and would like to make people aware of alternative uses that could potentially exist for them. We believe that reuse, repair and ultimately repurposing devices will help slow down the surge of e-waste which is characterized by the shortening lifespan of these devices. Factors such as planned obsolescence, the inability to repair and abandoned software support for devices that have reached end-of-life all contribute to this surge.

In order to meet this objective, we create hardware and software tools that assist in the analysis and reverse engineering of discarded devices and their components to help reimagine what they could become next. We believe that reverse engineering e-waste is necessary in the world today, empowering people with tools and knowledge to repurpose discarded devices themselves. Finding new uses for discarded devices requires research and development and this wiki publicly documents our process. All of our projects are under continuous development and will be updated regularly.

Project Description
OI!STER A target board with a QFP48 clamshell socket aimed at debugging and glitching STM32L5 MCUs.
UNBProbe A passive, spring-loaded needle probe for probing PCBs.
UNBProbeBase A Base connecting 12 UNBProbes to a prototyping area.
UNBRK A QFP48/64/100/144 Breakout board with a prototyping area.
